Museums and the Web (MW2011): Hands-on, interactive, hard working, workshops
This year at Museums and the Web we are featuring a series of workshops that will really get you working and will result in practical experience doing something new. We are trying to dispense with being lectured to or even philosophizing around a seminar table.
Bring your interactive body to Gail Durbin's Designing Activity to Encourage Online Engagement or Jessica Koepfler's Bringing Visitors into Design workshops.
Bring your laptops to the 'bootcamps' on Drupal (by R.J. Townsend, author of Foundation Drupal 7), CollectiveAccess (by its lead developer and architect Seth Kauffman), OpenExhibits (by its creator Jim Spadiccini), WordPress (by UK expert Mike Ellis) and Google Apps (by BPOC Technical lead Scott Granger) to master some new open source software tools and apply them directly to your organizations needs.
Or check out Seb Chan's hands-on Google Analytics workshop that uses your own institutions data after taking his morning workshop that walks you through new thinking about metrics for success in Web 2.0
Even the more 'traditional' workshops this year, on Augmented Reality, Designing Games, e-Books for Museums, Social Media Planning and Mobiles have breakouts for small group exercises and interactive learning features scheduled throughout.
It's a good thing we will have a huge continental breakfast spread with fruit, granola and other healthy foods in addition to the usual high sugar muffin/pastry spreads, and a full lunch for everyone engaged in either a morning or afternoon workshop. That will help keep energy levels up for the intense activity involved in hands-on workshops.
All pre-conference workshops have limited enrollment. Register early so you're not disappointed.
