SFMOMA Explore Modern Art

In November 2008, the the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) launched a redesigned website. One of the primary goals of the new SFMOMA site was to provide our online audience with a much fuller set of stories about the art and artists in SFMOMA’s collection, with layered access to different levels of information aimed at users with varying interests and amounts of knowledge. The new SFMOMA website meets this goal through Explore Modern Art, a section that features the redesign, merging, and expansion of what were previously two discrete areas on the site: a searchable online database of nearly 8,000 objects from our collection and hundreds of rich media resources including video and audio. Explore Modern Art also features the SFMOMA ArtScope, an innovative, visual browsing tool of more than 3,500 objects from our collection, arranged in a continuous, map-like grid.  The SFMOMA ArtScope is designed for wandering and the chance discovery of artworks.
