Home Delivery: Fabricating the Modern Dwelling
The Home Delivery: Fabricating the Modern Dwelling site, developed in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name, is comprised of two primary sections. A survey of prefabrication in architecture (represented by the Timeline) covers the span from the opening decades of the nineteenth century through the past decade. The Installation Journal Archive below is a record of the weekly journal postings by the architects of the five contemporary prefabricated houses erected on the lot to the west of the Museum. The Installation Journal offers a "behind the scenes" look into the entire process of creating and erecting prefabricated architecture, and the firms and individuals chosen to participate contributed weekly progress updates, as did members of the MoMA curatorial team. The posts contained images and embedded videos chronicling the development of the commissioned projects leading up to the opening of the exhibition. Accompanying timelapse videos documented the installation of the exhibition in the lot.
While I appreciate the aesthetic quality and content on this site, it took me a few minutes to get the hang of the the novel interface. I'm still not convinced that I fully understand what I'm supposed to do.
I get the use of modularity as visual metaphor. I'm don't know if it works from a content standpoint. There seems to be a disconnect between the timeline and the installation journal archive. I'm not sure why they belong on the same page together.
Another small gripe... body text in flash leaves me cold. Not so much for the text but for the non-standard scroll bar. Call be spoiled but I like using gestures or a scroll wheel to scroll.
All these little interaction inconsistencies make it hard for me to simply enjoy the work.
