mw2008 updates as a 'sprout'
in between doing final updates to the site, been exploring ways to make the feed from the MW2008 updates discussion here visible on the main conference site at http://www.archimuse.com/mw2008/ -- what do you think of this sprout?

we changed strategies from MW2008 to MW2009 and are now using an RSS feed and javascript to update the "news" section on the MW2009 conference site.
it's pulling the feed from the MW2009 Conference Discussion here on conference.archimuse.com

trying to keep the updates relevant to the full conference was one of the reasons i chose the feed from the MW conference discussion here http://conference.archimuse.com/forums/mw_on_line_and_on_site/mw_conference rather than all of mike's onetag feed.
he did a quick iteration that shows the full feed scrolling horlizontally but to my eye that's got too much data in it.

I think this works quite well as a means of connecting the archimuse community site with the annual copnference and keeping the annual conference site fresh. I can see how it would allow much more frequent updates to the call out box information, though ordering that view so that it maintained the items most important to the annual conference community might be a challenge. As with any cross posting of data, the somewhat different purposes of distinct services need to be maintained. Since sprout doesn't seem to filter by a "typing" convention, this might require intervention at the MW annual conference end. But its definitely worth a try:-)
