The Folger Shakespeare Library is seeking a part-time Project Photographer for Early Modern Manuscripts.

B.A. degree required, major in photography or studio art desired. One to two years training and experience in the use of digital imaging software required, with thorough knowledge of Adobe Photoshop CS5 or later. Experience operating digital imaging equipment and working with digital images required. Ability to make fine distinctions between color hues and database experience required. Must have ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must have excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. A high degree of accuracy is required for all work.

Under the direction of the Head of Photography and Digital Imaging, the Manuscript Project Photographer scans flat unbound 16th and 17th century manuscripts from the library’s collection. Duties include, but are not limited to, creating master digital images, adding copyright and shelfmark metadata to each, and preparing first derivative digital images using color management and imaging software. Applies color profiles, corrects for color, and sharpens images. Crops and centers images and creates white backgrounds. Checks all images at 100% and corrects for scanning artifacts. Tracks and identifies images in progress with image management software and databases. Grant funded position for up to one year. Three days per week, 8:45 a.m.-4:45 p.m.
