Director of Development, New York

Toura is developing a platform for the efficient creation of multi-media tour applications for smart phones, such as the iPhone, Android, Nokia, Blackberry and similar devices. With operations in the U.S. and Europe, Toura is working with world-renowned museums, cultural institutions and tourist attractions to help them to create mobile tours that are educational and enriching. Toura is currently recruiting a Director of Development to lead and manage its on-going technology development efforts. We are seeking an experienced software engineer specializing in web application development with a focus on Ruby, experience with Rails, and modern web architecture and interaction. The Director of Development will work on web applications, user interface development and mobile application development. Experience with mobile development using PhoneGap a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Developing advanced web user interface components using JavaScript
• Developing techniques and tools for measuring interactions with Ajax user interfaces on mobile devices
• Working with QA and Development teams to troubleshoot bugs and glitches
• Work with internal interaction design team to create and integrate all necessary UI resources, (icons, graphics, text)
• Designing QA tests for functionality and usability testing and estabilishing on-going QA processes

REQUIREMENTS

• Programming experience in Ruby and Rails
• Advanced knowledge of JavaScript, XML, DHTML and CSS
• 3-5 years experience designing and implementing web applications
• Experience troubleshooting common problems associated with *nix based systems databases (SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle)
• Offline caching experience
• Internationalization experience
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Degree in Computer Science
