Vacancy Number: NL2090
Fulltime / Fixed term contract for 11 Months
Applications close 21 August 2009

This role combines leading the ongoing technical development of the DigitalNZ Programme (50%), with the delivery of other high quality new services for the broader National Library (50%).

DigitalNZ runs and develops services to help people find, share and use NZ digital content. The Technical Lead role has responsibility for leading all aspects of the technical support and ongoing enhancement of the DigitalNZ solutions. These cover aggregation services from several hundred data sources, an institutional repository for object hosting, metasearch infrastructure, API data sharing, and various front-end websites and API-driven applications. DigitalNZ is on the leading-edge of content and data re-use services in NZ, and is a break-through project for the National Library. Find out more about DigitalNZ at www.digitalnz.org

The second aspect of the role involves being deployed as part of the Service Development and Support team of the National Library. Given the essentially project based nature of this role, it will involve regular assignment to other projects that deliver new and enhanced digital services to Library customers. The National Library is embarking on an ambitious programme to enhance its digital library services, and this role will play an important part in that development.

It is expected that candidates will ideally have a high degree of technical specialisation covering the likes of Solr, Fedora, Java, Ruby on Rails, Oracle, XML, and Dublin Core. A high degree of competency expertise in areas such as Agile project management, application design, application coding, and technical requirements analysis is also expected. A significant part of the role will involve working with various technology vendors to meet deliverables.

This is an exciting position and offers candidates a challenging and varied role, with the chance to break new ground in the digital library space.

Applications close: 5pm Friday 21 August 2009.
