Museums and the Web

An annual conference exploring the social, cultural, design, technological, economic, and organizational issues of culture, science and heritage on-line.

Mapping the Musetech Landscape

This interactive, real-time mapping event to draw maps that define the state of museum technology today was led by Susan Chun and Rachel Smith, Director of Digital Facilitation Services at The Grove Consultants International (the country's leading visual facilitation organization).

Attendees at Museums and the Web 2012 defined the topics of infrastructure, content, tools, and platforms by adding projects, people, organizations and companies, needs, ideas, and related work from outside the field to the maps. They also helped organize topics into clusters, and provided feedback and an audience for Rachel while she drew their ideas (at MCN 2010, she created dazzling drawings for the conference keynote as well as for the visualization session). Ideas were also contributed via a worksheet, attached here.

The final maps are discussed by session leader Susan Chun, with David Bearman and Jennifer Trant (Archimuse) in this interview by Peter Samis of SFMOMA:

This is really really well done!
Is it possible, since the audio is not so good, to have it as a descriptive text?
Thanks in advance,
Liat

It is brilliant! many thanks for sharing the map and the video about the map. The audio is not so clear, but I guess that you reduced the quality of the original audio to make the video smaller...

I have a very large image of the three paneled landscape map. Here is a link to the jpeg. If you need it more detailed I've got the PSD.

Hi Jeff, would be grateful for the PSD file. Thanks! Norbert (norbert.kanter@zetcom.com)
