AMNH’s First Mobile Exhibition Heads For The Edge Of The Known Universe

The American Museum of Natural History is famous for its Rose Center for Earth and Space and its Hayden Planetarium. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Rose Center we have launched our first mobile exhibition – Cosmic Discoveries iPhone App. It’s now available to download for free through iTunes. http://bit.ly/appOx0

Cosmic Discoveries is the latest project to build upon the extremely successful track record the Museum has with interactive mobile. The app allows users to explore a photographic mosaic, constructed from nearly 1,000 stunning images taken from the Rose Center and space agencies around the world. Cosmic Discoveries gives the public another peak into the wealth of scientific research and resources at the Museum – and it is just plain fun.

All the photographs appear on the app's initial screen stitched together to form one of the most iconic shapes in our Solar System -- the gas giant Saturn and its rings. Cosmic Discoveries also features eight stories on a range of subjects from comets to galaxy clusters. Aside from the cool photos and exciting stories, the application allows users to share images with friends and post comments that can be read by everyone else. And that’s where you come in; social networking.

We’d love for you to download AMNH’s Dinosaurs app, have some fun with it, and then tell all your friends about it. It would be great to see news of our app spread around Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and the blogosphere.

Thanks and enjoy,
