It's the time of year when we have to think about retreating to the city ... with temperatures on the way to zero (that's freezing in Celsius) the evenings see us (or tonight just me) moving closer and closer to the fire.

There's something to be said for retreat while maintaining connectivity -- an oxymoron, but one that's somehow revelatory about the way I live my life. Here, it's possible to be away, but still there.

The seasonal migration has insinuated itself into the peripatetic life of the consultant. For the last five years, the changing rhythm of summers on the island and winter in the city has influenced my sense of progression. Have I accomplished what I hoped this season? What's on the agenda for the winter? More travel, that's for sure.
