#MW2009 on-line mentor Jon Pratty - getting people together in the backchannel

Something social, networked and slightly different is happening at #mw2009. From a small base in the Directors Room, our team of editorial volunteers will be actively weaving threads between Twitter comment, external blogs, and live post-session feedback.

We’ll collect everything onto conference.archimuse.com while ideas are still buzzing. It's about weaving together all sorts of voices, on all kinds of platforms, telling the story of the place and the space as we unfold our sessions, workshops and in-between moments.

Together we’ll tell the story of the conference while it happens, and we'll try to open it out for others not able to attend.

If you’d like to contribute, and write-up an MW tour, workshops, un-conference session, session, reception or a Birds of a Feather breakfast, please drop by and let me know.

Find me on-line via twitter @jon_pratty, by email at jonnypratty@gmail.com, or using the Contact tab on my profile at http://conference.archimuse.com/user/jon_pratty

Throughout MW2009 we’ll be recognizing and rewarding the best comments, pictures and posts.

We’re looking forward to your point of view!

will this conversation continue after the conference? it may be an interesting platform to assist the program committee for next year.

A great development. I won't be able to join you physically this year, but really look forward to following up what's going on through Jon and co's updates. Could it also open up possibillities of virtual participation, remote contribution to debates etc.?

Hi Costis

What a great idea - we'll need to think about this. I know that Ross Parry worked with his Digital Heritage students recently to pull together Twitter comments directly as his students were in lectures! It may well be possible to seed sessions live with remotely-put questions.

We need to have a think about how to do this. Maybe we'd have a #hashtag reference for each session? Then that'd pull Twitter questions into one place?

What other channels could we use? What do people think - any ideas from the wider MW2009 audience?

From the top of my head I'm thinking like an irc-channel (like in a life broadcasting manner where summaries are made and questions/discussions can be started)

or life videostreaming of the speakers (includng some way of asking questions remotely)

but how to deal with registration/fees ...?

Sadly Slate, there won't be any bones given as prizes. I'd love to take you for a run on the beach as a prize though! We should see if we can have a prize for best canine contribution...Maybe you could be deployed to shepherd us home from the reception.
