Discuss the challenges and lessons of designing an in-gallery social media experiment in less than a week.</p> <p>Simply replicating museum experiences through social media is bound to fail – authenticity is a thin line to walk and new audiences are conditioned to spot any iota of disingenuousness. To change the dynamic of the Newseum experience, we first introduced a new, overarching narrative to our on-site visitors. This new scaffolding allowed us to transform social media from a translator of the museum experience to an active character in the story.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-program-type"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Type:&nbsp;</div> Professional Forum - discuss an issue </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-nodereference field-field-backreference-event"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/mw2012/sessions/student_led_forum_on_museums_and_the_web">Student-led Forum on Museums and the Web</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-program-authors"> <div class="field-label">Authors:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/user/bakeraaronj" class="username" title="View Aaron&#039;s profile.">Aaron Baker</a> </div> <div class="field-item even"> <a href="/user/rachel_greiner" class="username" title="View Rachel&#039;s profile.">Rachel Greiner</a> </div> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/user/rgoerger" class="username" title="View Ruth&#039;s profile.">Ruth Goerger</a> </div> <div class="field-item even"> <a href="/user/gabriela_gil" class="username" title="View Gabriela&#039;s profile.">Gabriela Gil</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="og_rss_groups"></div> http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/mw2012/programs/maintaining_authenticity_avoiding_distractio#comments MW2012 current topics forum museum studies students http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/crss/node/16084 Thu, 02 Feb 2012 16:22:27 +0000 NancyProctor 16084 at http://www.museumsandtheweb.com Museums & Society 2034: Trends and Potential Futures http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/biblio/museums_society_2034_trends_and_potential_futures <div class="image-attach-teaser image-attach-node-10445" style="width: 76px;"><a href="/biblio/museums_society_2034_trends_and_potential_futures"><img src="http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/files/images/futureOfMuseums.thumbnail.jpg" alt="futureOfMuseums.jpg" title="futureOfMuseums.jpg" class="image image-thumbnail " width="76" height="100" /></a></div> <span class="biblio-authors"><a href="/biblio/author/1829">Chung, J.</a>, &amp; <a href="/biblio/author/1830">Wilkening S.</a></span> (2008).&nbsp;&nbsp;<span class="biblio-title"><a href="/biblio/museums_society_2034_trends_and_potential_futures">Museums &amp; Society 2034: Trends and Potential Futures</a>. </span> <u></u> <span class="Z3988" title="ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&amp;rft_val_fmt=info%3Aofi%2Ffmt%3Akev%3Amtx%3Adc&amp;rfr_id=info%3Asid%2Fconference.archimuse.com&amp;rft.title=Museums+%26+Society+2034%3A+Trends+and+Potential+Futures&amp;rft.date=2008&amp;rft.aulast=Chung&amp;rft.aufirst=James&amp;rft.au=Wilkening%2C+Susie&amp;rft.pub=Center+for+the+Future+of+Museums%3B+American+Association+of+Museums&amp;rft_id=http%3A%2F%2Faam-us.org%2Fupload%2Fmuseumssociety2034.pdf"></span><div class="og_rss_groups"></div> http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/biblio/museums_society_2034_trends_and_potential_futures#comments AAM envisioning future museum studies museums report http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/crss/node/10446 Wed, 07 Jan 2009 18:05:06 +0000 jtrant 10446 at http://www.museumsandtheweb.com
