Museum in a box WP-templates free for use

Is it possible to initiate a crowdsourced project where we create WP-templates (free to use, perhaps CC-licensed?) for Museums and Galleries? What should such templates contain? Which plugins are most useful? How do we integrate plugins that open up collections like the Europeana API? How can we gather information on useful WP-resources for Museums/Galleries as well as the templates? Through a Wiki? Can we initiate collaboration where different people from different institutions collaborate on the same template? Can we specify some kind of general list of demands for small institutions/organisations as well as middle sized? And, is WP just out of question for larger institutions?

Not for or against, but how can it be hacked? What projects could we build on its back; on its spatial metaphors; using its methods? Is it only for the big ones, waiting to be part of the official project; or can smaller organisations somehow take advantage of it, building useful or entertaining tools for their users on top of it?
