Friday (BOF breakfast) includes hot things as well.

The lunches at tours, workshops and on Friday have vegetarian options so they ought to work for all. Lunch on Thursday and Satiurday are on your own.

The Welcome reception on Wednesday is short and nibbly. It is not designed to be dinner for anyone, unless you live on beer and snacks:-)

The Exhibitors reception on Thursday is long and includes anti-pasto and pasta offerings that include vegetarian, and a turkey meal that has lots of side vegetables, as well as the usual heavy hors d'oeuvres, so it should serve as dinner, even for vegetarians.

The IMA reception on Friday includes Steamship round of beef, BBQ salmon, international cheese trays and lots of passed hors d'oeuvres that are vegetarian and/or seafood but it probably ought not be thought of as dinner for vegetarians.

David Bearman
Wed, 25 Feb 2009 17:17:15 +0000 dbear comment 1190 at http://www.museumsandtheweb.com I will join the veggie army http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/forum/mw2009_there_will_be_food_and_conversation#comment-1182
Mia,

I'll be your partner in crime sniffing out the non-meat experience. If there aren't official labels, we can make our own.
Fri, 20 Feb 2009 22:23:51 +0000 ninaksimon comment 1182 at http://www.museumsandtheweb.com we'll remind the caterers http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/forum/mw2009_there_will_be_food_and_conversation#comment-1180
thanks for the reminder Mia. we ask the servers to let people know when they are passing vegetarian dishes, and we'll ask them to label platters too.

MW is an atypical group for a US hotel -- we always have to get them to completely change their soda [pop/softdrink] : water ratio too.

keep those suggestions coming!

/jt

j. trant archives & museum informatics www.archimuse.com
Thu, 19 Feb 2009 20:53:00 +0000 jtrant comment 1180 at http://www.museumsandtheweb.com Vegetarian tips http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/forum/mw2009_there_will_be_food_and_conversation#comment-1178
Having seen this not happen recently, it's reinforced the idea that it helps to make sure the vegetarian food is clearly labelled. Otherwise we won't know, and since most vegetarians won't take a punt on random foodstuffs, having faced the 'lurking surprise meat' more than once, it may go unappreciated.

Also making sure catering staff check whether there's any gelatine in desserts (also useful for kosher/halal and non-beef eaters).
Thu, 19 Feb 2009 20:33:00 +0000 mia comment 1178 at http://www.museumsandtheweb.com
