Hi Marion

Thanks -- I do know Mike, though I've never worked directly with him. I'll see if he might be interested.

Hope all's well at the Freud & you're recovering from your site being hacked.

Best,

Perhaps not very surprisingly, the key findings are as follows:
• Providing open access is a mission-driven decision;
• Different museums look at open access in different ways;
• Internal process is important;
• Loss of control fades as a concern;
• Technology matters;

Timeline Software

June 24, 2013 - 7:12am

Hello all,

We are looking to develop an interactive timeline which has the option of
being created collaboratively and shared online and has the functionality
of being able to be published offline. Ideally, we would be looking at
something that allows event building and has zoom functionality, enabling
long stretches of time to be observed. It would be great if multimedia
content or embedded code could be added to events. I have had some
experience with cloud services, such as TimeGlider, but we are looking to
take this to the next stage. Can anyone recommend such a platform,
preferably existing [...]

SV: Professional Green Screen equipment

June 22, 2013 - 4:10am

Hi Benjamin, contact Ebbe Strandell at the Abba Museum in Stockholm. They aren't using a green screen background but a reflecting background, and green led lights, with excellent result. I am not sure which camera or software they use, but I've seen the result which was great. Evaluating our games

June 21, 2013 - 9:40am

Good afternoon everyone

Wellcome Collection are looking for someone to carry out a small, focused evaluation of our last six online/mobile games. We are looking for a critical and analytical eye on the games and on our commissioning and production strategy that will enable us to make effective choices about producing and commissioning future games. The work will involve interpreting and drawing lessons from existing research (Google Analytics, player surveys etc) identifying areas where further research needs to be done (stakeholder interviews, peer review of games), and carrying out that research. The output will be a report that is communicative, [...]

Re: Professional Green Screen equipment

Something thing that you want to look at is the cameras that you use. If budget is not an issue you want something that shoots 4:4:4 if possible, or at least 4:2:2 - this rules out most prosumer cameras and quite a lot of pro cameras too. Blackmagic's cinema cameras certainly look like they'd be good for green screen work. [...]

Europeana 'AllezCulture!' petition

June 21, 2013 - 6:34am

Good morning MCG'ers,

I wanted to flag up an event that is taking place at Dublin Castle today
highlighting the need for European countries to show their support for
the right to online access for cultural heritage.

Part of the Europeana #AllezCulture campaign, the event has brought
together politicians and policymakers and has showcased some great
examples of how opening up collections has helped power new business
models and creative applications in museums. A transcript of my talk
from this morning '#AllezCulture and the Right to Culture'
ulture-and-the-right-to-culture> is now up on Collections Link. [...]

Hi Jerry,

We're an art deco cinema, with 1930s murals and so on in the auditorium. We
have an access lift which allows access into the back part of the
auditorium, but the tour we're looking at is of the google street-view style
so it'll feel more like walking around it and allow a close-up view of the
murals and the period features in the auditorium. It'll also provide a look
around the upstairs rooms (the old manager's office, projection room, etc.)
which are now used as an exhibition space. To get an idea of what we're
about, have a [...]

I am probably being a bit slow, but I don't understand the problem you are describing, so am not sure how to provide an answer *:0! You say:

"I'm currently looking into providing a 360 navigable tour of the cinema in our foyer, for those who can't get up our old steep steps to see the upstairs part of the building." [...]

Re: Professional Green Screen equipment

With the chroma key capabilities of most editing programmes these days you
should be able to get good results with the simplest of equipment, so
before spending a packet on new stuff I'd make sure that the current stuff
is being used optimally. In particular, there are two common mistakes that
people make when trying a green (or whatever colour) screen: [...]
