Re; MCG website is now mobile responsive (3)

Thanks to people for some great feedback. All positive which is very good to hear. Also some useful feedback on specific things to maybe look at - just what beta is for :)

I have tweaked a few specific things that were raised:
The white space to either side of the content tables has been reduced a bit (thanks Mike)
I've adjusted the positioning of search box/submit as these overlapped on some screen sizes (thanks Nick) [...]

Re: Free Use of Museum Images

June 13, 2013 - 12:28pm

Thank you very much for sharing that, Colin. It's really interesting to read about the different approaches. I might finally start blogging more about art and history if I can get more museum images that I can use. Janet Janet E Davis

Hi Martin,

are you specifically looking for companies or would freelancers suit? I know a couple which might be good to have a chat with, and I can ask if they're free at the moment. Let me know.

Best regards,
Giuseppe

Hi

I can thoroughly recommend Dusthouse (www.dusthouse.org ) who we use primarily for producing trailers but they do documentaries as well.

They are based between London and the West Midlands.

If you fancy bringing a bit of stage magic to your videos, Dusthouse are the company for you.

Hi Martin,

We have worked with a number of film makers to produce films for exhibitions . Each has differed as per the project theme and focus but all draw out narratives around making and process with the maker. I would highly recommend Federico Urdaneta (www.fumf.tv/), Jared Schiller (www.jaredschiller.co.uk/) and The Light Surgeons (www.lightsurgeons.com) - all of whom have worked with [...]

Meet Wikimedia UK at the Collections Trust's OpenCulture 2013 conference

June 12, 2013 - 7:20am

Dear colleague,

With apologies for cross-posting, I wanted to make you aware of the
following announcement which the Collections Trust has issued today
concerning Wikimedia UK and the OpenCulture 2013 conference.

Wikimedia UK will provide an information hub at OpenCulture 2013
on 2-3 July to
discuss its projects with museums and other institutions, and to provide
delegates with an insight into how it can help with digitising their
collections and making them freely available online. [...]

Re: Documentary filmmaker

June 12, 2013 - 6:49am

Good Morning Martin,

A friend of mine is a Freelance Creative, Art Director and Director of his own company Joe Lygoe Creative Ltd. He has 13 years' experience in leading creative projects from TV ads, to interviews (talking heads), websites and much more. He has plenty of contacts in documentary film making and would be happy to take on a project like this. Being a Creative he is extremely interested in art so it would be a pleasure to work on for him. [...]

Hi Martin,

They're based in London, so I don't know if ideal, but we have used acapmedia and they are superb - http://acapmedia.co.uk/

Most of the recent videos on our youtube channel were made by them - http://www.youtube.com/user/horniman

Documentary filmmaker

June 12, 2013 - 6:07am

Good morning all,

We are embarking on a film/documentary project relating to our studio
pottery collection that will involve interviewing artists, collectors,
gallery owners and others involved in the post-war British ceramics
movement about their connections to others working/collecting at the
time. We are taking a modular approach to filming - i.e. doing a series
of short, isolated interviews with key persons. Starting with six.
However, the long-term goal is to expand this into something much
larger. So, although there will initially be a series of separate
interviews, we will also be hoping to tease out several, over-arching
narratives that [...]

Re: Drupal partners - recommendations needed

June 12, 2013 - 5:56am

I've enjoyed working with Adaptive Technologies Ltd based in Brighton before:

http://www.adaptivetechnologies.com/

They build all their sites with Drupal now ( I believe ) and can provide hosting.

This is the site they did for the museum of design in plastics:

Hi Angie,

I can recommend The Workshop http://www.theworkshop.co.uk

While I was with Parliament's education team they built this site for us:
http://www.speakersschoolcouncil.org, including hosting and mtce etc.

Re: MCG website is now mobile responsive

June 12, 2013 - 4:51am

Hey Andrew

Good work - it looks great!

My only comments would be that you'd gain quite a lot of real estate if you got rid of the whitespace on either side of the central content block (this is on iPhone, where maybe 30% of the width isn't being used). Also personally I'd slot the search box under the logo - or lose it entirely - it looks kinda weird right at the top. [...]

Re: MCG website is now mobile responsive

June 12, 2013 - 4:37am

Well done Andrew, looks like you've done a great job.
I would say that the search box and logo need some padding and the longer menu items (Volunteering as an MCG committee member) run off the screen but maybe that could be rectified, in this instance, with renaming the item 'Volunteering'? [...]

MCG website is now mobile responsive

June 12, 2013 - 3:24am

Dear fellow cultured technologists,

We've just given the MCG website a bit of a refresh.

http://museumscomputergroup.org.uk/

The main difference it's now responsive so the display should be much easier to read on your mobile device of choice. It's tested on Samsung and Chrome Android browsers, iOS on iPhone, iPad and iPad mini and recent desktop versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer. [...]

Hi Angie,

We have had a great experience working with Annertech (
annertech.com ) on the DECIPHER project. They
are based here in Ireland but they have worked with a lot of international
NGOs with some very big deployments. They are also Drupal core
contributors, so they really know their stuff.

Regards,

Eoin.

We are working with Axis12 and I know that the Louvre have worked with Acquia. Also, the Indianapolis Museum of Art have got a Drupal team which works as a Drupal dev agency ;)

Good luck
