Martin Lajoie is passionate about creating opportunities to make cultural content available and a part of our daily experiences. Since joining the Portrait Gallery of Canada (2006) Martin delivered a redesigned website (www.portraits.gc.ca) ; emphasized the importance of multimedia and implemented in-house capture and editing; collaborated with George Brown College’s StudioLab (Toronto) to produce a multimedia packaging solution; managed the Ottawa presentation of In Your Face The People’s Portrait Project, in collaboration with the Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto). Currently Martin is exploring visual description and public participation online and in real-time.

Martin’s professional journey started with the Museums Studies program at Algonquin College (Ottawa) and soon after (1999) began at the Canadian Heritage Information Network (CHIN). At CHIN Martin managed and coordinated multi-partnered online exhibitions and products. Prior to joining the Portrait Gallery of Canada, Martin had just undertaken the role of Product Manager for the online portal Virtual Museum of Canada.

Martin will present Getting 'In Your Face': Strategies for Encouraging Creativity, Engagement and Investment When the Museum is Offline. [Paper]
