Paul Doherty is a Senior Staff Scientist and Co-Director of the Teacher Institute at the Exploratorium. He received his PhD in Solid State Physics from MIT in 1974, and was a tenured physics professor at Oakland University from 1974 to 1986. In 1986 he came to the Exploratorium and from 1992 to 1997 he was the founding director of the Center for Teaching and Learning. He has written many science books including the Explorabook which has sold over a million copies. He has created a website with over 900 pages of science explorations. In 2003 he received the Faraday award for excellence as a science communicator from the NSTA. Recently, Paul Doherty has created a virtual science museum named The 'Splo in Second Life.
